About

Sea Change

The name Sea Change was inspired by a desire to be part of a positive change in the way we launch our teens into the adult world. By helping them to shift their focus away from rigorous scheduled benchmarks and the goal of getting into the "best" school, we can help our youth to find good fit, expand their horizons and take charge of their own fabulous education.

The Sea Change philosophy

At Sea Change, we help students find, apply to, and choose colleges that fit them academically, socially, and financially. We reduce stress by managing the process. We work with high school students and their families; college transfer students; and those applying to graduate programs in STEM fields. When students attend colleges that fit, they can fully engage in their experiences and thrive throughout their college years and beyond.

“I listen carefully and actively; I research and communicate in depth; I change perspectives, unveiling new possibilities; I empower students to take charge.” – Laura Penvenne, PhD, Founder, Sea Change College Consulting

Sea Change
For the Student

We will help you identify and clarify your ideas about what you want out of college by assisting you to:

  • Create a list of colleges to which you would like to apply;

  • Make a plan and schedule the tasks necessary for the application process;

  • Organize the information on which you will ultimately make your decision.

The last few years of high school are important as you learn who you are and what inspires you. Prepare for the college application process:

  • Participate in your community;

  • Practice focus and time management;

  • Learn to advocate for yourself;

  • Interact with adults who can offer you guidance.

Sea Change will help you to find an educational experience that fits. The aim is not to make you look like someone you are not but to help you shine as yourself.

Sea Change
For the Parent

We will guide your child and you smoothly through the college application process. A good college fit and stress reduction for your family are our primary goals.

The value of a college education is in the development of a lifelong learner. The value is in the transition to adult life with a safety net and it is in the broadening of perspective that comes with experiencing a new environment without parents. Of course, a college education also serves as:

  • Training for a career;

  • Preparation for graduate school;

  • Attainment of a credential.

However, this training and preparation is really the structure within which the more important work proceeds.

With this in mind, Sea Change provides an unbiased, confidential and knowledgeable perspective on the college application and decision process.
